2 out of 5 stars Good when it works...   July 25, 2010

Ok, so I'm rewriting my earlier one star review after more experience with the stick. From day one, this stick hasn't worked correctly. Sometimes it doesn't register and I have to turn off the Wii and try again. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. My classic controller always works fine, so the problem doesn't lie with my Wiimote or my Wii; it's the stick.

Everybody's heard of MAS and Hori sticks, but Madcatz wasn't well known until a couple years ago. Before that the company was known for low quality products, and it seems like nothing has changed. I learned my lesson. I'm returning this piece of crap and getting a Hori. I should have went with the company with the better reputation and cheaper stick in the first place, but better late than never.

I gave it two stars instead of one because when it actually does work, it's a decent stick.

4 out of 5 stars Great Quality product, just not excellent...   April 13, 2010

I got this with the game on release day, so I've had some time with it. I've played using each control scheme and have to say this is the best way to play the game hands down, none of the other controller schemes come close as to using this stick. Now for the details:

Quality:
Overall very nice build, it definitely doesn't feel cheap. I was worried it would be light and too easy to move around on a table top but it actually does have a good amount of weight on it. I also like how the bottom portion of the arcade stick slopes down a little bit, it definitely makes it a lot more comfortable. The matte finish is also a welcome touch which doesn't require constant cleaning from fingerprints and such. However it seems that most of these will suffer from a very minor imperfection as my friend and I's arcade sticks have the top left corner of the matte finish raises up a bit. Most people won't notice or be bothered by this but I thought it was worth a mention.

Stick/Buttons:
The stick itself is pretty decent although some may feel the ball top is small, I got used to it and prefer it over the much larger ball tops. My only real issue with the arcade stick is the buttons, they are mushy to me. They are responsive and work fine but to me just feel awkward like a light gun without the spring action trigger. In the end though if you decide the stick or buttons aren't to your liking this arcade stick is mod friendly.

Size:
In my opinion the size is almost perfect. It's just small enough that I can fit it into my GPak Wii Carrying case (had to move things around a bit but it fits very well). However it would have been nice if it was just an inch or two wider for larger handed players.

Overall this was worth the +$70 I paid for it (got a deal on it). Now I'd just wish some other fighting games would come out on the Wii so I could get more use out of the thing.

3 out of 5 stars not bad   March 18, 2010

I have been using a modded HRAP EX for my xbox before this stick. So when i first used this I was extremely disappointed. The buttons feel mushy in a cheap way, the stick jiggles, and the action on the stick's internal switches is stiff. Worst of all, there's very little room on the left of the stick for the side of your hand to rest. If you're used to a lot of room, it will feel very constricting.

But really it's just that i've been spoiled rotten by my HRAP. The buttons, despite the feel, are VERY responsive and therefore shouldn't really warrant any complaint. The stick works fine... and I was somehow able to adjust a bit to the lack of room for my left hand. It still irks me that just a half inch more clearance on the left of the stick would have made such a huge difference in comfort.

I do like the heft, the rubber feet, and the sloping front (for your wrists to rest). I feel that all arcade sticks are absurd ripoffs, but in the context of the rest of the arcade stick market this was an acceptable purchase to me. If 2.5 stars is an average buy, I give this a 3.

5 out of 5 stars Compared to SE Street Fighter 4 sticks...Amazing!   March 8, 2010

I play a lot of fighting games. I own the Madcatz Street Fighter 4 standard edition fight sticks for both xbox 360 and ps3, and this tatsunoko vs. capcom stick is in a league of its own. I've modded both of my SE Street fighter sticks with Sanwa 30mm buttons and JLF joysticks. Right out of the box, the feel of the stock joystick is perfect. I wouldn't even consider spending the extra 25 bucks for a sanwa joystick. The buttons are not as great, but much better than the stock buttons on the street fighter SE sticks. I'll still probably get sanwa buttons to install just out of my own preference for them, but in the meantime it's really not an issue at all, since all the stock parts are responsive. The weight of the stick is great, and there is no noticeable lag due to the fight stick being wireless.

But seriously, the fact that a stock Madcatz joystick can be this responsive and have such a smooth feel right out of the box is amazing. In my opinion, the quality of this joystick really is comparable to a sanwa JLF, and that is pretty awesome for the price tag.

5 out of 5 stars BEWARE! Your Warranty May be Voided Before you even play it!   February 27, 2010

This is a great Arcade stick and plays extremely well but I want to bring to the attention of those planning to buy this stick to check the warranty seal on the bottom. Out the box due to the packaging at MadCatz the cord can rub against your warranty seal and break it. If the seal is not in place it may void out your warranty! It happend to me!

Also note! That the awsome artwork Can Rub Off! after light use! I've only used the stick for 2 hours and the wear is already showing under the B button. I highly recommend getting some clear Avery Shipping Labels and applying it over the bottom area where your hand rest. The 3/1/3X4 labels are the perfect fit and have a rough but clear finish so you still have a nice coarse surface still and you will still be able see the artwork because it's clear. You should be able to find this at any office supply store for a few bucks! No reason to mess up the amazing art work on your 80 dollar arcade stick.
