4 out of 5 stars Super Street Fighter Stick Pros vs Cons..   August 17, 2010
Chris X (New York)
I am decent beginner to average Super Street Fighter player (meaning my RYU & Chun Lee are a "B" ranking, but I dont have a ton of player points yet as I have not played it for too long & have only had the stick for 3 weeks) & bought the stick to avoid the Haduken cramps & try to get my rank up from Lower B rank I seem to b stuck in.. The PROS of the stick are obvious..... 1st off repetitive moves are less stressful on the thumbs, The buttons are solid & seem to function with authentic arcade integrity being full Sanwa (buttons return to normal position without a lag & stick feels quality made like your holding a mini arcade in your lap)).. The artwork is pretty yet not over the top & the compartment for the Nice length USB port is cool because the Stick looks nice with it tucked away neatly when not playing.. The turbo works well for what it does, but I have not yet found the need to utilize it,this could perhaps be because in 3 weeks I am still not entirely comfortable with the stick, although I see improvement from me wanting to throw it out of the window when I was losing to inferior fighters simply from not yet having a full feel for the button layout!lol).. Moves become easier once you become accustomed to the sensitivity & execution of the stick itself.. & that brings me to the cons..
CONS.... 1st off, if you have little experience with arcade sticks, you will without a doubt struggle to pull of things from simple haduken type moves to ultras bc of how different the use of the D pad is from the stick(I mean yes the stick feels quality made, but the simple ultras like down forward down forward 3kick or punch become difficult at first because you will more than likely be inputting down forward, down down at first.. You really have to pay attention to your execution until you get used to it) .. I cant speak to the Square vs Octagon or circle gate, but I can tell you that your first few days will test your patience as you relearn to play a game you may have been on the way to mastering. The artwork while aesthetically pleasing is probably done a little on the cheap with a simple clear plastic frame screwed over painted cardboard, probably not a big deal as the stick itself feels solid, but for the price I have seen better quality art on the cover of sticks. Overall I think its a great stick and the price is coming down especially through amazon used.. the question is whether or not its worth it for you, if you're a casual gamer that may not use it that often and has fun with the D pad, dont buy it you will be frustrated and waste money, but if your addicted and want to master a new vintage way to play and have the patience to practice go for it..

5 out of 5 stars Great fight stick with nice options   August 15, 2010
Brad Wilson (Minneapolis, MN USA)
This has joined my collection alongside a Hori Real Arcade Pro EX-SE which has Seimitsu parts. The Hori is great, but I think this stick one ups it for fighting games and in terms of options. The buttons I could go either way on, but I greatly prefer the looser, longer travel of the Sanwa stick for fighting games. I can confirm the edge of the bezel is indeed raised and not rounded off, but luckily has not given me any problems.

Where this controller really shines is the options. It has a switch to select if the stick controls the D-pad or either of the analog stick inputs, a lock switch to prevent the Start or Guide buttons from accidental presses, turbo if you feel so inclined, and a storage compartment on the back to store the cable. The option to change which input the stick controls is especially nice for using this on PC games, where the D-pad is generally mapped as a hat switch and you might otherwise need to remap it using something like AutoHotkey (which can also remap the stick to arrow keys, a neat trick I used to play the Lost Viking mini-arcade-game in StarCraft 2 using this stick).

Both of my sticks get about equal use, but on different games. For example, I currently have the Hori gated to 4-way for Pac Man CE and use this MadCatz for SSFIV. The general consensus is often Sanwa for fighters and Seimitsu for shooters, and I tend to agree, but there are also plenty of people who would not. I'll just say I would recommend comparing them and deciding which matches your personal preference for the type of games you play.

5 out of 5 stars Nice fightstick   June 25, 2010

I had been looking for a good arcade stick for my xbox 360, and the fightstick from Madcatz is the best one.

5 out of 5 stars Fightstick > Gamepad   June 17, 2010
Yup Yup ^^ (N. Las Vegas)
I was going to wait atleast a week to see how well I adjusted to using this than the gamepad however, its only been a day and let me tell you the difference is as clear as night and day. Ive only ever used the gamepad for any fighting games, but with the 360's dreaded D-Pad i was completey turned off to playing them anymore. So I started searching for an alternative and came across this neat little thing. Right out of the box I was hooked. The overall feel and responsiveness of the fightstick completely blew me away!! How Ive been able to tolerate the gamepad up until now I have no idea.. Just the very thought of it makes my stomach turn... lol. My only real gripe with this stick tho (which has no effect on gameplay whatsoeva..) is the design. If you compare this to the SF4 TE stick it has a much better look to it. Even more so is the red frame on the SF4 TE stick which the SSF4 TE stick lacks. And because of this ive noticed abit of fraying on the ends. But as I said before this has no effect on gameplay. So with that said I highly recommend this stick to any fighting game enthusiast out there, especially for those of you who are still rockin the gamepad lol

For my first purchase of an arcade fightstick I couldn't be more pleased. My roommate has a modded madcatz SE with sanwa stick and buttons that I played with before I bought this but I really like the space the TE "S" gives you for your hands to rest while playing and the sleek black design is perfect for me. The only gripe that I would have and its almost pointless to say but I feel like these controllers/sticks should be universal to any gaming system some how some way! Or at least for all the major ones. Its silly to think that I would have to buy another stick for the PS3 just because my stick is XboX compatible only!?? I know they gotta make their money but damn theyre all under Mad Catz anyway!
